BURBANK, Calif. - Canadian actor Corey Haim, known best for his role in the 1987 hit "The Lost Boys" has died, the Los Angeles coroner's office said Wednesday. He was 38.

Coroner's Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said that Haim died at 2:15 a.m. at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. She said an autopsy will determine the cause of death and there are no other details.

Earlier, TV station KTLA quoted police as saying that Haim died of an accidental overdose.

It said the 1980s teen idol was found unresponsive at an Oakwood apartment, near Burbank.

The Toronto native became a teen heartthrob with the 1986 film "Lucas" and 1987's "The Lost Boys."

His first role was in the 1984 hit "Firstborn," in which he played a young child caught up in a family war.

He then appeared in the 1985 television movie "A Time to Live."

In recent years, he appeared in the A&E reality TV show "The Two Coreys" with his friend Corey Feldman. It was cancelled in 2008 after two seasons.

Haim also scored roles in the comedy film, "Shark City," and the horror flick "New Terminal Hotel."

He was set to do a cameo in the the sequel. He showed up in the rehearsal, apparently under the influence. CNN.com stipulates that he died from accidental overdose. Of what? Who knows. The guy's been having a hard time staying clean for so long. Shame.

Yeah. Anyone who grew up in the 80s can remember how big a star this guy was. Amazing. He ended up selling his teeth on ebay for money to buy drugs. Lost Boys is a great movie.... and, don't forget about "License to Drive". I loved that movie as a kid.

I tend to think he was already dead long before this. I remember seeing some shit about him on VH1, and you knew he was doomed. It was pathetic. I honestly think child star-dom should be outlawed. Ruins everyone. I think the only one who survived looking good was Mandy Moore. I wish she would just marry me and get it over with. I will have her for a wife some day.
