The problem is that, like most Ufologists- including Linda Howe, John Mack, Bruce Maccabee, Dave Jacobs, who allow themselves a total immersion in the High Strange, highly strange events end up surrounding them- sometimes even consuming them. The greatest example of this paradigm might be Paul Bennewitz. Dilettoso is no different in that regard. But none of that ought to be allowed to detract from their work product in general. Ufology will always be an acquired taste- a hall of mirrors. I have no time to suffer knee-jerk debunkers like Lex. And I know you feel the same way.

Fuck, man. i'm running outa time. Have you read Rich Dolan's second book? Anyone who considers the field seriously can have no doubt that the Earth is under surveillance by non humans. It seems absurd and it is absurd but it is nonetheless true.

which is why I always say, approach it all with the "sum" of your knowledge .... the baby and the bath-water,..... I am sure a lot of the events are "planted"... so when an otherwise respected researcher, deems it as intelectually honest to report the experience...... his credibillty is questioned, and is gone in the eyes of those whom up until that time had seen the research there-of as quite plausible

Yep. That's a tried and true tactic of the disinfo crowd- to make it all appear to be ridiculous. The Robertson Panel devised that strategy in the 50s and it's been honed ever since. Don Keyhoe warned us about in his books and articles starting in 1952. The 'giggle factor' is the strongest debunking weapon that the IC has. In more recent times we have Klass, Moore an Doty preying on the credulity of eager researchers. They've created a hall of mirrors at the very core of the study. It takes courage and conviction to remain in the field and to resist the lies of US government. But fuck it- I'm in it for keeps regardless of the consequences. ET is real, abductions are real, the Roswell event was real.

Interesting debate... The only thing I have to add is the mainstream media are rolling off the giggle factor now with increasing amounts of serious articles about the possibility of life on other planets and tons of 'casual' references to UFO's + aliens. While it's best not to get overexcited it points to a positive sea change.

I agree modern UFOlogy is in a state and I stay away from it in general. I prefer reading ancient myths and piecing it together that way. What would a 'magic mountain inhabited by immortals who ride in silver dragons' be in today's terms? Pretty obvious for all of us, I know, but a far more rewarding area of study once you learn to link the pieces of the puzzle.

Jacques Vallee did some work on this in a book called 'Passport to Magonia.' Jung broaches the possibility too in his analysis of the UFO phenomenon as Archetypes. Vallee's work is interesting but in later years he more or less tossed it in favor of metallic machines from either other planets or other dimensions. I find the whole myth analogy to be very unsatisfying as an explanation- a sort of intellectual debunking that relies on relegating much of the body of UFO evidence to figments of one sort or another. That's the very reason that Vallee abandoned his own speculations in that regard. But in the end, who can say?

I was saying that ancient accounts of dragons + immortals are actually bona fide early sightings of UFO's and ET's recounted in the language of their time. Not myths at all, just ancient records pointing to a milenial, timeless presence. I prefer to study this stuff because it gives a much bigger picture.

Plenty of UFO accounts in the Bible and Early Chinese texts, but that's old news to most seasoned readers.
