This shit has been going on for centuries and some of the what we call the "greatest" *subjective term* civilizations did the same exact thing. I am not justifying it, I think it's complete bullshit. But, look at your historybooks it's written large in blood. We have not learned and I am thinking we never will.

Experience is the greatest teacher.

Wisdom comes from the combination of knowledge and experience.

I did what I thought was right when the circumstances surrounding that decision arose. I take risks in life because that is where success is born. Also failure. Each are experiences that teach us, individually what we prefer. From those preferences we choose new experiences or rehash old ones.

Mistakes are the biggest part of life and if we continually harp on each others mistakes, wars will continue ad infinitum.

I respect and love my brothers and sisters in arms because there is a belief shared by many if not most among us.

Our commanders and politicians who abuse our allegience and trust, our faith in our country(men and women) and our duty to sacrifice should be the focus and the fear, not us.

Do not take this the wrong way....I'm not attempting to justify any actions.....I'm trying to point out how easy it can be for productions of this type to trigger an emotional response before a rational one.

The variables are slightly different.....environment, time frame, etc....but a great deal of DU munitions were used in Kosovo. The UN performed a field study specifically to gauge the effects of those munitions on the environment and population.

I will not attempt to cut and paste anything from the resultant article. I think it's best to offer the source and point you at the findings. Frankly, I was surprised to find such relatively benign results. The "Findings" portion starts on page 27 of the linked .pdf.

I don't know about your American Legion but at my local American Legion it's generally a Bar. Some (most?) of them are dirt poor, and thought it might be a good idea to join up to earn money for college, and better their lives.

Some of them saw no other choice. Our very own chi has said she is considering joining the military for lack of better options.

There is a very small minority of people who actually "get off" on being in war, most of the soldiers would much prefer being home with their families.

But they have made a sacrifice, while I don't personally agree with their decision, I have at least made an attempt to understand why some of them have chosen to do so.
