French prosecutor seeks dissolution of Scientology (http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSTRE55E5M420090615?feedType=RSS&feedName=entertainmentNews&rpc=22&sp=true)

Wow how awesome would that be? These fucknuts have been manipulating and profiting off the weak-minded for far too long. Fuck this cult.

[offsite:1vgvgulc]A French prosecutor on Monday recommended a Paris court should dissolve the Church of Scientology's French branch when it rules on charges of fraud against the organization.

Registered as a religion in the United States, with celebrity members such as actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta, Scientology enjoys no such legal protection in France, where it has faced repeated accusations of being a money-making cult.

The Church's Paris headquarters and bookshop are defendants in a fraud trial that began on May 25. Summing up her views on the case, state prosecutor Maud Coujard urged the court to return a guilty verdict and dissolve the organization in France.

The Church of Scientology denies the fraud charges and says the case against it violates freedom of religion.

A ruling is expected within months.

French state prosecutors had previously resisted the idea of an outright dissolution of Scientology in the country.

If the court follows the prosecutor's recommendation, Scientology could appeal and the verdict would be suspended.

The trial centers on complaints made in the late 1990s by two former members who spent huge sums on Scientology courses and "purification" sessions.[/offsite:1vgvgulc]

Look into their "Fair Game" policy...

Nice to see the French are (apparently) prepared to give the bastards both barrels. Now if only the rest of the nations they infect can take similar action...

Predecessors of "Fair Game"

In written policies dating from as early as the mid-1950s, Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard told his followers to take a punitive line towards perceived opponents. In 1955, he wrote "the law can be used very easily to harass ... The purpose of the suit is to harass and discourage, rather than to win – if possible, of course, ruin [the target] utterly".[1]

His confidential Manual of Justice of 1959 advocated using private investigators, as critics were invariably "found to be members of the Communist Party or criminals, usually both. The smell of police or private detectives caused them to fly, to close down, to confess."[2] In a very similar vein, he advised that "If attacked on some vulnerable point by anyone or anything or any organization, always find or manufacture enough threat against them to cause them to sue for peace."[3]

[edit] Fair Game Law

WTF??!!

Thats up there with gang stalking, huh?

Anyone ever hear of someone being killed, or severley beaten from either Fair Game, or Gang Stalking?

Im sure I could possibly over react to Gang Stalking, and pop a slug into someone.... lead em into my house, pop em, put their shoe on and kick my door in....

Scientology began infiltrating Canada a few years ago. The one in Montreal (Quebec) opened last year. It wasn't long before there were a number of suits against them in court (fraud). There were also numerous complaints about all their advertising in the metros (subway stations). The majority of Quebecers don't have much use for religion; we kicked the Catholic Church out of our lives in the 60s. There's a movement afoot now for a completely secular society (i.e. no religious symbols in govt. buildings, no religious teachings in schools).

I can't give you the membership numbers of the Montreal chapter because I don't trust the data on their website. However, I can see this "church" being used more as a networking tool than as a place of worship. IMO.

The difficulty for Scientology is adapting to the laws of various countries and what constitutes a "religious organization" in each country. In Canada there are very tough consumer protection laws and this also comes into play as well as the language laws in Quebec. It just becomes a little more complicated to scam the public; not impossible, just complicated.

Yep, that answered my previous question... You are from Quebec!

Allo toi

Well, from my perspective, Scientology has been around for a long while, they were just underground and not advertising in the Metro yet... Must have missed that little gem, left Quebec early 2008 and hasn't come back since.

There is a Scientology recruiting center that has been there for... erm, ever since I can remember but I noticed it when I was 16 or so, that was close to 20 years. It is still there, just checked it on google street view, On Papineau Street, just before Mont-Royal avenue.

They have been there longer than you think, unfortunately :(

Allo, quelle surprise!:-D

Well, I stand corrected .The press release I read earlier this year mentioned the opening of a church in Montreal. Could be they're moving to fancier digs and a better location. However with the number of legal suits against them and bad press, they may have put this new church on hold. One can only hope.
